What a summer it has been again for Skibbereen rowers and the town of Skibbereen. Last August we were all swept up in Olympic and O'Donovan fever as the Credit Union turned in to the supporters gallery and hub with hundreds of people congregrating to cheer on the boys. Although the Credit Union was closed last Sunday as the Skibb rowers crossed the finish line bringing Gold and Silver with them, we joined them in the clubhouse to cheer them on with their club mates and family. It's not everyday that a club or town the size of Skibbereen get to celebrate such victories, but it vital to celebrate and mark such occasions.
Too often we can get caught up in the negativity of every day news and the hustle and bustle of life in general can distract from what life is really about - enjoyment! If ever there was a poster boy or girl needed for the word "fun" then the Skibbereen rowers would be at the top of the list. They are proof that when you truly love something and enjoy it, then anything is possible. With the right measures of dedication, focus, positive attitude and hard work, dreams can and will come to life.
Here in Skibbereen and Bandon Credit Union we get to witness this almost on a daily basis. We meet students who come to speak with us about loans for college after they have achieved their preferred course, we meet business people who need help and support to grow their business or set out on a new and exciting venture, we speak with people who want to upgrade or extend and renovate their home or build a new one and farmers who are excited about new machinery. Each day we celebrate with our members the milestones that make their lives better and more enjoyable. They may not be front page news like our rowing heroes but it is their front page news and we are proud to play our part.
If you dream it you can achieve it!
